Silver Linings

 

 
     The world as we know it has changed.  Out of nowhere a tiny invisible particle with some genetic material has invaded us, humans.  We are not in control of these things. It's the way the world was made.  We are, however, in control of ourselves.  We get to decide how we deal with this.
 
     Will be live in fear?  Will we take rational steps to stay healthy?  Will we stress eat and gain weight?  Will we use the time we now have to plan a better future than before?  Will we take our lives to a new and exciting level?
 
     People are in pain right now, but this will pass.  Hopefully, any damage to either health or finances will be short-lived.  When a dark cloud develops overhead, we know that eventually, the sun will shine again.
 
     When life returns to what we thought was normal, we can make adjustments to improve our lives.  We can improve our health, we can improve our relationships, and we can improve our finances above and beyond where they were.  It takes planning and an action plan.  Now is the time to start planning.
 
      We can take our lives in our own hands and work to come out of this with improved clarity and a new fire to make our lives the best they can be.  Let's begin with our health.  We all understand that the people with underlying health issues are at greatest risk for serious illness with this virus.  But this is not new.  People with underlying health issues are always at greatest risk of disease, illness, and premature death.  This virus didn't cause that.
 
     By taking action to improve our personal health, we can avoid becoming one of the high-risk population.  Even if you currently have a health issue, many times it can be improved or reversed.  Diabetes, hypertension, high cholesterol, arthritis and joint pain, low back pain, heart and lung disorders can all be improved by losing weight and increasing physical activity.
 
     Our mental health and well-being can be enhanced by an improved diet, smaller amounts of food, and a regular physical activity program.  The inflammation in our body can be dramatically reduced by eating less carbohydrates and less sugars.
Over 2000 years ago a physician said, "Let thy food be thy medicine".  Smaller portions, greener meals, more plants, and some good fish, can decrease inflammatory levels in the body and help prevent most disorders.
 
     It's hard to think about the potential silver linings of an event like this in our lives.  Many people will have died and families emotionally injured.  Many will have financial strife and employment issues.  We still can control our thoughts, our emotions, and take full 100% responsibility for how we come out of this crisis on the other side.
 
     Perception is key.  What we think about comes about.  If we dwell on the negative and the pain, we will get more negative and pain.  If we dwell on possibility and self-improvement, we will see and get these.  This is our choice.  Don't let someone on the TV or Radio decide for you.  Don't let some person's rant or lie online scare you.  We must think for ourselves and act accordingly.
 
     Our choice will be to come out of this pandemic with health, vigor, and a sense of renewed purpose, or be deflated and depressed for months and years to come.  It's up to us.  No matter what, life will go on and it's time we decide what kind of life we want.  It is often in the most difficult times that we rise up to become the best we can be.  Just look around.  People are basically good and are acting on that nature.
 
     Let's all prepare our minds and our bodies to look forward and maybe even create a silver lining on the other side of this dark cloud.
