New Season New Reason

 

 
     Welcome Spring!  This is a time of renewal and growth.  It's when all of Mother Nature is having a party.  Plants come back to life.  Colors are restored in nature.  The flowers bloom and farmlands activate.  The air is fresh and Spring rains cleanse and replenish the earth.
 
     This same feeling can come over us.  The days are longer and warmer.  The sun seems brighter and is higher in the sky.  We feel like doing something.  Cleaning the house, working in the yard, taking a long walk, and getting outside become regular plans.
 
     Our bodies can feel a bit sluggish and weak having been slowed during the winter months.  Maybe we weren't quite as consistent with the winter workouts and disciplined eating over the winter.  Now we can make some changes that will get our body moving in the right direction.  By summer we can be leaner, smaller, and more energetic.
 
     The next three months can have a profound effect on our health and body composition.  Take a few minutes and sit down to write out some Springtime goals.  Make it a short list of what you must accomplish with your health over this Spring Season.  Next, take each of the goals and write several action steps that must be done daily to achieve the results you want.
 
     Make a simple flow chart or log to check your progress each and every day.  Log some vital statistics like body weight, percent body fat, percent lean tissue, water intake, minutes and intensity of physical activity, along with how you are feeling each day.
 
     By summertime, you will have reduced your body weight by 15 to 30 pounds. Your clothes will fit better and will down a couple of sizes.  Your energy level will be high and you will feel better, look better, and show the world that you are in charge of your body and your life.
 
     We overestimate what we are capable of doing in a month; however, we underestimate what we can do in 3months.  Set a goal deadline for the fourth of July.  Get focused, get busy, and get leaner.  This is the time.  This is your life and your health we are talking about.  Strive to become the healthiest you've been in years.  It's time to Spring into action.  You Can Do This!

Many of my patients and people, in general, get fixated on the scales.  I think the scales are important and tracking our body weight is a great measure of getting leaner.
