New Routines

 
     We get stuck in routines.  Many of these routines are detrimental to our health and wellbeing.  This viral pandemic has shown us that we can break old patterns and old routines.  We have been forced to change our daily lives. 
 
     Many are working from home, many are not working, and many are staying inside for days on end.  Our ability to get certain supplies has been altered.  Many have fears, some very real, and some very overblown.  We are living in different times.
 
     The best thing we can do right now is to take care of ourselves and our loved ones.  A great way to do that is to purposefully change our daily routine.  It is normal human nature to go lazy at this time however.  Don't sleep the day away. Don't spend endless hours watching the news or TV or Movies.  Certainly some entertainment is good.
 
     What a gift of time to be able to start new habits and new routines. Begin a daily exercise program.  Start today.  Plan meals in advance.  Start today.  Connect with people you've been too busy to call or text.  Learn a new language, learn a musical instrument.  Get good with some new software.  Start a new project or plan a new business venture.
 
     We are now all very focused on our health.  Not getting the virus is our first focus.  But go well beyond this and begin to put focus on our overall health.  The best treatment for the Coronavirus is to not get it.  The best way to not get it is to have a strong and active immune system.  To develop our immune system we must eat properly and be active.
 
     Carrying extra body weight is toxic to our tissues and makes us more susceptible to illness.  While our focus is on our health, take it to the next level and work to get in the best health possible.
 
     We can come out of this time either in better or worse health and much of it has to do with what we do right now.  Develop new healthy habits now that will last well beyond this temporary change in our lives.  The worst thing is to come out of this with more weight added to our body and to be in poorer health.
 
     We are in control of our minds and our body.  Get going, start working, and make this year the healthiest yet.  That's a new routine we can live lean, live long, and live life with.

Many Measures

Many of my patients and people, in general, get fixated on the scales.  I think the scales are important and tracking our body weight is a great measure of getting leaner.
