Gotta Want It

 

 
     We all want things in our life.  More free time.  To know more. Better relationships. Better health. Better body. More fun. A new car. A bigger house. A nice vacation.  An understanding boss. And on and on and on.  It's good to want.  Problem is, wanting isn't enough.  Wanting is just a wish.
 
     If it's something you really want, then more than a wish is needed.  We must focus on this want and understand why we want it.  We usually want something that we feel will improve, enhance, or change our lifestyle for the better. Because there can be so many wants in our head at any given time, we tend not to focus on any one thing in particular.
 
     Let's choose that we want a better body.  A body that is healthier and more fit and looks the way you want it to look.  A body that functions at high capacity. A body that has both strength and stamina.  A body that you are proud to move around in.  A body that looks forward to hitting the pool or the beach. OK, Now that you've decided to have the body of your desires, it's time to figure out how to get there.
 
     This body will not suddenly just appear one morning when you get out of bed.  This body takes focus, time, effort, and change to achieve.  Will it be worth it?  Depends.  How bad do you want it?  If it's just a wish, then let it go and get over it. Not gonna happen.  If it's something you've wanted and are willing to do the work to get for reasons that only you know, then it's possible and likely you can have it.
 
     You must want this so badly you will not give up when the going gets a little tough or you hit a setback.  In fact any setback must drive your desire to a higher and stronger level.  This want has to become a MUST.  I must get to my goal.  I must be at my desired weight.  I must be fit and healthy.  I must look my best and look 10 years younger and feel 10 years better.
 
     If you're ready to move toward the body you and others only dream about, then sit down, get out some paper and design your plan.  If you're unsure where to start, we can help you with a plan.  Here's a clue.  You will need to begin to eat smaller amounts of food and eat more vegetables and less breads, potatoes, and pastas.  You will need to set up and do a regular physical activity program, not just being busy.  You will need to get adequate sleep.  You will need to stay very hydrated.
 
     You must keep a daily log of your tasks and achievement.  You must review this log weekly to adjust and make changes.  You must find someone to hold you accountable.  If you're struggling you must get help.  If this sounds like too many musts, then you're not ready or not really interested in accomplishing this. It's just a wish.
 
     Now you have a plan, it's time to go the distance.  How far?   As far as it takes.  How long?  As long as it takes.  How much work?  As much as it takes.  This is not a short term project.  This is your life.  Is the effort worth a long, healthy, and life full of vitality?  I believe it is.
 
     Decision time.  Is it a wish or is it a must?  It's up to each of us.  If we decide it's not a must, that's OK.  We just need to stop obsessing over this in our minds and move on with life.  For many people, not a day goes by where they are tired of being tired.  They are tired of a body that's broken or worn down.  They are tired of feeling older than their age.  If so,  this must be done; but,

Many of my patients and people, in general, get fixated on the scales.  I think the scales are important and tracking our body weight is a great measure of getting leaner.
