Constant and Never Ending Improvement

 
     Many years ago I learned of a philosophy that spoke of Constant Improvement of ourselves.  The concept is sound and would seem to lead us all to become the best persons we could possibly become.  The practice of this Constant and Never Ending Improvement however, is difficult.
 
     We all want to better ourselves whether that improvement be with our body, our health, our financial status, relationships, our faith, and many other areas of our lives. Typically, we set a goal to make a large improvement and then become overwhelmed by the actual task and time needed to complete it.
 
     We often overestimate what we can accomplish in a month, but underestimate what we can accomplish in a year. Over 5 years we can change the course of our lives. To see real and sustainable improvement in any area of our life, such as body weight and health, we must make small incremental improvements day by day.  Mastery comes from making a small change and working on it until it becomes a permanent habit. Once that habit is established, doing the same with other habits is needed.
 
     The boring drudgery of staying on track long enough to change our lifestyle throws most people off track within weeks if not days.  A change in our mindset and a determination to see a task through is required.  Once we are decisive in our plan, these changes are much easier to stick with.
 
     The great news is that though this idea of constant and never ending improvement seems impossible, it can be done taking one change at a time and making it permanent. Also, the job of improvement is never done because reaching a new level of achievement will only lead to another level.
 
     So What's the Point?  Begin to make positive changes without putting constraints on yourself.  Avoid tight deadlines and arbitrary endpoints.  Begin with one change and ingrain it into your daily life.  Do it again and again and over time ( months and years )  you will see dramatic and life changing personal habits develop.  As the Twelfth Angel says in Og Mandino's best seller, "Every day in every way, I'm getting better and better!"

The disease of Diabetes is growing at epidemic proportions in America and around the world.  When we say Diabetes, we are talking about two different disorders.  Diabetes Type I and Diabetes Type II.

Saying No

Losing weight and getting back a leaner healthier body is hard work.  It is a full time job.  But Dr. Oliver, I already have a full time job and since I am taking care of a family, I have two full time jobs.
